This monument was built in honour of The Duke of Wellington in 1828 as the northern gateway into Buckingham Palace, and now stands on the island in the middle of the traffic that circumnavigates Hyde Park Corner.
Also sometimes called 'Constitution Arch', this structure of 1828 originally had a jolly nice statue of Wellington on his horse atop but another replaced it in about 1912. "Peace in her chariot" by Adrian Jones now adorns the top position and one of London's smallest police stations used to live underneath.
Getting across the road to visit could mean dicing with death if it were not for the pedestrian tunnels, which link the various sides of the road together.
