Waterloo Bridge

WWaterloo Bridge links Aldwych and the South Bank Centre.

The present Waterloo Bridge was completed in 1942 during the Blitz, to a rather drab design by Sir Giles Gilbert-Scott, not to be confused with his grandfather Sir George Gilbert-Scott who designed, amongst other things, the Albert Memorial.

Sir Giles' bridge replaced a John Rennie bridge, which was built after the battle of Waterloo and from which it got its name, having originally been called Strand Bridge. For more details about the battle see the Duke of Wellington.

Today's Waterloo Bridge is a great place from which to take pictures of the London skyline.
