The Victoria and Albert Museum has long been established as a leading advocate of contemporary art and design. Born out of the Great Exhibition of 1851, the Museum was originally conceived as a "classroom for everyone," to educate the working population and inspire British designers and manufacturers. From this founding principle has evolved the greatest museum of the decorative arts, spanning all continents and dating from 3000 BC to the present day.
