St Mary Woolnoth

st mary woolnoth londonSt Mary Woolnoth was built between 1716 and 1727 and is now a Grade 1 listed building. It was built in English Baroque style by Nicholas Hawksmoor (1661-1736), a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren. Hawksmoor built 6 churches, all in London, but this is the only one in the city.

Inside this small church there is superb plasterwork and joinery. Hawksmoor also designed the pulpit. The North wall exterior on Lombard Street is one of the great examples of treatment of a blank wall in English architecture.
