Salisbury - Salisbury is probably the finest medieval Cathedral in Britain - with the tallest spire (123m/404ft), the best preserved Magna Carta (1215AD), a unique 13th century frieze of bible stories in the octagonal Chapter House, the largest Cloisters and Cathedral Close in Britain and Europe's oldest working clock (1386AD). Boy and Girl Choristers sing daily services, continuing a tradition of worship that goes back nearly 800 years. Tower tours most days. Open every day of the year.
Lunch - There is time for lunch in Salisbury.
The City of Bath - Leaving London we drive west to the elegant city of Bath which lies between the Cotswold Hills to the north and the Mendips to the south and is unique in the UK as the only Hot Springs in the country. A quarter of a million gallons of water gush from the spring every day at a constant temperature of 46.5 degrees. The water fell as rain on the Mendips approximately 10,000 years ago and percolated deep into the earth before rising in the Avon Valley.
Bath is a museum to two periods of England's history, the Roman period and the Georgian period. After lunch we visit the Roman Baths museum and Pump Room and enjoy a panoramic drive to admire the treasure of the 18th century domestic architecture and city planning. Bath was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987. After seeing the baths, there is time to visit Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge.
This tour finishes at approximately 7pm.
