The side of the church facing Covent Garden was originally meant to be the main entrance but it was decided to put the alter at that end, so the main door had to be bricked up.

The entrance is now through the churchyard, which is a nice spot to sit away from the bustle of the surrounding streets.

Today the redundant portico entrance acts as a stage for street entertainers. This is very appropriate as the first ever Punch & Judy puppet show took place here back in 1662. Opposite in the piazza is the aptly named Punch and Judy pub.

The church itself has strong links with the performing arts and is often called 'the actor's church.' Inside there are many plaques remembering famous actors and memorial services for actors are frequently held there.
