Queen Elizabeth Gate
.
queen elizabeth gate londonCommonly known as Queen Mother's Gate.
In 1993, during what for many was the worst recession in living memory, somebody decided that it would be a good idea to spend an indecent amount of money having an elaborate gate sculpted for the Queen Mother who was a sprightly 93 years old at the time.
Despite a public outcry, the gate was built. When it was unveiled, even more gasps went out at the unusual design.
That said, the gate has now received approval from a lot of people. It is certainly a welcome change from the severe black ironwork, used so much throughout the capital.
The gate is at its best at night when it is floodlit.
Nearest Underground (Tube) Station: Hyde Park Corner.
