Old Curiosity Shop

old curiosity shop londonThis shop dates back to the 16th century, making it the oldest shop in London. It is widely believed to have been the inspiration for the Charles Dickens' novel of the same name.

However, experts think that this is very unlikely to be the case, although Dickens certainly knew the area very well and he did visit the shop, which was part of the old Care Market.

The Old Curiosity Shop is now a listed building, so it will remain unaltered and preserved. In the past the shop has sold antiques but at present it is unoccupied.
