The London Fire Brigade is a highly trained force of people with five main roles; fire prevention as a primary task, legislating against fire risks in public places, workplaces etc., response to fire and emergency situations, special services to deal with catastrophes other than fire, and emergency planning to cope with possible large-scale disasters.
For some of these services charges can be made. This is seldom, if ever, the case with genuine emergencies, particularly fire.
Should you find yourself under threat from fire:-
shout 'fire'
dial 999 from a connected phone
sound the building fire alarm, if fitted
without risk to yourself attempt to extinguish the fire
leave the area, close doors behind you
leave the building
Obviously this is a general guide, which you vary to suit the circumstances.
