Should you fall ill whilst in UK it is most likely that you will be required to pay fully for any treatment received. The exceptions are if you have medical insurance in your own country, or if your country has a reciprocal health care agreement with UK.
Ensure that you are clear about this before arriving in UK.
Those living in the European Economic Area can receive free or reduced-cost emergency health treatment in UK. But you must have gained a valid Form E111 before leaving your home country.
Doctors in UK are becoming increasingly reluctant to make bedside calls unless completely necessary; this is generally a reflection of their workload. You are likely to be asked to go to a Medical Centre by appointment.
The Department of Health produces a very helpful leaflet 'Health Advice for Travellers'. If you are a UK resident going abroad make sure you read this in time to take their advice before you leave.
If you are feeling unwell and qualified advice is not readily available, call the NHS Direct on-line Health Guide, Tel: 08 45 46 47, or use their website,
