Ambulance
.
London has an excellent Ambulance Service. There are over 400 emergency vehicles, with 3,000 staff to utilize them. Of those, 1,200 are directly concerned with emergencies and accidents, and 670 of them are well-qualified Paramedics.
There is no charge for this service.
In the event of an accident where personal injury is involved dial 999 on any connected phone. You will be answered by someone who is used to dealing with people under the stress of an accident. Give concise details of the incident, the location and any other information you feel helpful - try to let the operator take you through the process.
Once you have reported the accident it is important to remain where you are or, if you do move, to ensure that the Ambulance Service is made aware of this. They are dedicated and often over-worked people whose time and skills are precious.
If you are feeling unwell and qualified advice is not readily available, call the NHS Direct on-line Health Guide, Tel: 08 45 46 47.
Many people in UK are qualified first-aiders and it is possible that if you are involved in an accident you may encounter an offer of assistance from one of them. It is entirely up to you whether or not you accept that offer.
