Windows Bar
.
Location: The London Hilton, 22 Park Lane
Tube: Hyde Park Corner
There are two reasons to visit the Windows Bar at the Hilton. The first is that it must have the finest view of any bar in London; The Queen famously had a small fit when she realised she'd be able to see the monstrous edifice from her garden, but by then it was too late.
The second is probably due to the Hilton's dubious reputation for attracting those with heaps of money who have no idea how to spend it. Curious Londoners are willing to spend hours just watching the passing scene of drunk tycoons, fur bespangled Italians, ludicrously tanned divas from Southern France or Arab businessmen acting out scenes that could be from a 1970's spy film.
And the whole bar reflects this; it's a throwback which is all the funnier for the fact that its clients seem to have no idea that it is. As the piano tinkles away, you'll find yourself enjoying this surreal scene, but beware: prices are pretty extortionate. Book a table by the window if you can.
