Having spent a day wandering musing at Poet's Corner or marvelling at the Palace of Westminster, this small corner pub at the start of Whitehall provides welcome relief. Although small and often a little crowded, The Red Lion is a little Victorian gem opposite Downing Street which manages to attract an eclectic crowd of politicians, civil servants and visitors.
You certainly feel you're around the corridors of power with prints of Victorian and Edwardian statesmen looking down on you, and the discrete television permanently tuned in to proceedings in Parliament. There is even a division bell that sounds when a vote is taking place in the House of Commons allowing MPs to meander back to the House and vote without the inconvenience of having to listen to the debates!
Many regimental, squadron and ship reunions also take place here so you may well see the odd medal or ten. Excellent, chirpy service adds to the good atmosphere
