Dove, The

Location: 19 Upper Mall
Tube: Hammersmith

Traditionally a Mecca for followers of the annual Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race, this charming little riverside pub certainly has its claims to fame. Among them is an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the smallest bar in Britain at 4 feet by 7 feet, although prospective drinkers will be pleased to hear it has another gorgeous bar with the perfect open fire for winter evenings!

Despite this, The Dove still gets understandably packed at times. It has a fine artistic and literary history: regulars have included Graham Greene, William Morris, Ernest Hemmingway and it even saw the composition of Rule Britannia by James Thomson.

Upstairs are tiny rooms for eating, while outside is a gorgeous area for supping in the summer. An altogether excellent pub that has been in the hands of the Fuller's brewery for over 300 years.
